Job description:

MANAGER- HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT

JOB PURPOSE

The incumbent manages the Health Safety and Environment Systems in the organization, ensuring that the organization complies with all national legislation in relation to its office space as well as to its equipment, work sites and those of its contractors.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Develops and implements health safety and environment policies and procedures to ensure compliance

2. Develops and implements health safety and environment programs and initiatives

3. Oversees HSE contractor management systems throughout the organization to ensure compliance by all contractors and employees

4. Supervises the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions, conducts root causes and recommends corrective action

5. Conducts HSE competency enhancement programs for management, supervisors and workers on health and safety practices and legislation

6. Develops and implements emergency response plans and drill exercises

7. Maintains liaison with external organizations for emergency response and disaster preparedness

8. Performs related duties as assigned

 

 

Qualifications required:

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

- Comprehensive knowledge of Health Safety and Environment regulations and legislation

- Comprehensive knowledge of International Standards and Codes of practices

- Good communication skills both written and oral

- Excellent investigative and presentation skills

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

- Bachelor Degree in Occupational Health Safety and Environment

- Training in Health and Safety Management (NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent)

- Six (6) - Eight (8) years experience in Health and Safety Management, particularly in the construction industry
