  PURPOSE OF JOB

 

The Category Coordinator contributes to ensuring and helping to enhance the profitability of the Company’s Convenience stores, through identification and evaluation of new products and analysis of existing product performance, enabling decisions regarding category, product mix and active promotion of products, facilitating the adequacy of product supply and supporting loss prevention practices.

 

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  • To support the Retail Team Leader in optimising the category and product mix to ensure profitability of the Retail operation.
  • To actively identify, evaluate and recommend new product offerings to refine, optimise and differentiate the company offering.
  • To identify and implement promotional campaigns using instruments in the Retail Inventory Software.
  • To ensure the relevance and integrity of the data in the Retail Pricebook and Retail Inventory System.
  • To manage the relationship with suppliers of goods for the Convenience Stores, being the primary liaison, negotiating and entering into contractual arrangements, and dealing with all supply and quality matters.
  • To ensure compliance with the Company’s Procurement standards, policies and procedures in supplier transactions.
  • To ensure the adequacy of the supply of goods to the Warehouses.
  • To monitor, recommend and implement appropriate initiatives in support of loss prevention in the Convenience Stores.

 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Analyse the performance of products being sold, in terms of acquisition cost of the product, product turnover, margins, product location/placement.
  • Analyse prospects, threats, markets, and growth opportunities to recommend strategies and changes to category portfolios.
  • Conduct Market Surveys to identify products in each category, satisfying the specification, with their associated Vendors.
  • Determine from which Vendors to request quotes, and prepare and send out Requests for Quotation.
  • Evaluate products and quotes, making recommendations to the Retail Team Leader regarding the introduction of new products, as well as the discontinuation of existing products.
  • Adhere to the Company’s approved Procurement Policies, Processes and Procedures in arranging the procurement of goods for the Convenience Stores, from the preparation of Purchase Requisitions to Contracts and Purchase Orders, securing the necessary approvals in accordance with the Company’s Delegated Limits of Authority.
  • Update, and/or provide accurate information and instructions to update, the relevant information systems with new and/or changing Vendor and product information, i.e. ERP, Retail Inventory System, Point of Sale System.
  • Determine, assign and review Minimum, Maximum and Reorder Levels for each product, for each warehouse and each store.
  • Develop, and ensure compliance with, conventions for defining products on the Retail Inventory System.
  • Propagate information on products to the Warehouses and Stores.
  • Communicate with Warehouse Clerks and Store Managers on all product matters, accepting feedback and providing guidance, advice, and instructions, as necessary.
  • Provide support to the stores/warehouses for Daily Task Procedures on the Retail Inventory System.
  • Work with Vendors of goods for the Convenience Store, to establish, monitor and maintain suitable and sufficient prices and gross margins.
  • Assist in analysing data and in performing troubleshooting, to identify anomalies and potential problems in workflows, procedures, etc., that contribute to shrink, and recommend solutions to minimise shrink.

 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Marketing or equivalent.
  • Retail management experience will be an asset.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the retail industry in price book, merchandising, operations or a related field.
  • A general understanding of accounting processes and procedures will be an asset.
  • Computer literate, with competence in the Microsoft Suite of products.
  • Knowledge of the Verifone Point of Sale systems and PDI Envoy or a similar Price book Platform will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, e.g. Maximo, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle, Sage, etc., will be an asset.
