Position Summary
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) reports to the Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is member of the Executive Team with principal responsibility for the strategic planning and leading the day-to-day management of the Operations Department (Production, Engineering & Maintenance and HSSE). The position is accountable for the establishment and management of the overall vision and operating strategy for the Operations Department, inclusive of overseeing, monitoring, and evaluating performance. This is a vital leadership role that will be responsible for driving results, growth and increasing overall efficiency of the company.
Key Responsibilities
Manages and oversees all of the daily end to end operational aspects of the Operations Department (Engineering & Maintenance and HSSE), and relevant contractors, with overall responsibility for providing internal leadership, managing people, budgets, and targets by ensuring that all activities are completed on time, safely, within budget with minimal disruption to the organization’s day-to-day operation.Keeps the CEO fully informed in a timely and candid manner of the conduct of the day-to-day operations of the company towards the achievement of its established goals and of all material deviations from the goals or objectives and policies established by the Board and Executive Management.Drives compliance with governance, risk management and industry standards and across Operations Department in order to support the strategic and business objectives of the company including protection of the company brand, principles and ethos.

Develops actionable business strategies and plans that ensure alignment with short-term and long-term objectives developed in collaboration with the CEO and other members of the Executive Team.

Optimises Department operational capabilities in collaboration with the Executive Team through translation and implementation of business strategies into actionable steps for growth, with suitable metrics for growth performance of the core business. Manages and oversees the performance and budgets of projects and operations for the Operations Department, and Contractors in collaboration with the CEO and CFO.

Implements and manages Department goal setting, performance management, and annual operations planning. Sets and monitors the performance of the Operations Department against standards and targets in areas such as technical efficiency, cost control, sales revenue and legal compliance, and provides accurate and timely reports outlining the operational condition/status of the Company.

Leads, guides, evaluates Operational responsibilities to ensure that the organization achieves it business objectives and complies with all relevant regulations and laws.

Coordinates and communicates development activities and priorities with all relevant departments and third parties to ensure successful completion of projects’ objectives on time, every time.

Participates in negotiations relevant to business agreements relating to production, development, supply, and sale of the company’s products in order to achieve and maintain, amongst other things, a satisfactory competitive position of the company within its industry.

Qualifications and Experience

  • BSc and MSc Engineering Degrees with supporting MBA, with at least 15 year’s Oil and Gas experience in a similar position.
  • Proven track record in Operations Management, managing multiple operations departments and in the execution of operations and projects in a leadership role locally and internationally.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing operations system, policies, processes and procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of managing oil and gas development and production operations.
  • In-depth understanding of process improvement and optimization discipline tools and techniques
  • Sound knowledge of Oil and Gas Health & Safety standards and operational procedures.
  • Strong Project and line management skills, Resource Planning skills.
  • Strong financial management and budgeting skills.
  • Proven track record in internal client management skills.
  • Strong ability to balance between long- and short-term objectives.
