Overview

Position: Civil Engineering Laboratory Technician

Job Description: We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Civil Engineering Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a key member of our engineering laboratory, you will be primarily responsible for conducting tests on soils, asphalt, and concrete materials. Your role will involve following established testing procedures, collecting and analyzing data, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct routine and specialized laboratory tests on soils, asphalt, and concrete materials according to ASTM and other relevant standards.
  2. Perform compaction, sieve analysis, plasticity, CBR and moisture content tests on soils to determine their engineering properties.
  3. Prepare test specimens and conduct tests on asphalt and concrete samples, including Marshall properties, compressive strength, durability, and mix design evaluations.
  4. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring calibration and accuracy of measurements.
  5. Prepare and organize samples for testing, recording detailed information about each sample and test performed.
  6. Collaborate with engineers and project managers to understand testing requirements and provide accurate and timely results.
  7. Maintain detailed records of test procedures, results, and any deviations from standard protocols.
  8. Assist in troubleshooting equipment issues and coordinating maintenance activities.
  9. Follow safety protocols and ensure a clean and organized laboratory environment.
  10. Stay informed about advancements in testing methodologies and materials to contribute to continuous improvement.

Qualifications:

 

  1. Proven experience as a laboratory technician, preferably in a civil engineering or construction materials testing setting.
  2. Strong knowledge of testing procedures for soils, asphalt, and concrete materials.
  3. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, such as sieves, compaction devices, and compression testing machines.
  4. Training or certification in civil engineering testing procedures.
  5. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks efficiently.
  7. Proficient in using computer software for data analysis and reporting.
