CIVIL ENGINEERS AND TECHNICIANS

A well-established Construction Company based in Trinidad is looking for experienced Civil Engineers and  Technicians with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in major construction projects to work in Trinidad  and within the Caribbean.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

1. Broad civil engineering experience, including municipal services such as earth works, geo technical engineering, infrastructural development and building construction.  
2. Confident in the application of design codes, national standards and construction regulations. 
3. Skilled in the solving of unique problems through use of hand calculations and spreadsheets. 
4. Proficient in the use of software, such as: Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel and Project). 
5. Experience in construction monitoring, issuing site instructions, red lining construction drawings. 
6. Experience in the administration / management of construction contracts, including measurement  for payment, variation orders, time claims, etc.,  
7. Tracking of Health and Safety on job sites.  
8. Evaluating & implementing construction techniques.  
9. Reading & implementing construction drawings.  
10. Resources & cost management.  
11. Using drawings and specifications to perform material take-offs for procurement on projects.  
12. Prepare Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and specifications for projects such as buildings, land  infrastructural development (roads, drainage and water reticulation system).  
13. Prepare request for proposal packages (RFP) in order to acquire contractors for sub-contracted  works.  
14. Prepare documents necessary for project control: –  

• Microsoft Project Schedule  
• Daily Reports  
• Look Ahead Schedule  
• Delay Logs  
• Manpower Histogram  
• Progress “S” Curve  
• Schematics for tracking progress of works  
• Confirmation of Verbal Instruction (CVI)  
• Request for Information (RFI)  

15. Prepare quantities for Interim Payment Certificate (IPC). 

16. Track and/or monitor expenditure on work plans and prepare value engineering strategies to  control/avoid overruns on budgeted cost.  
17. Liaise with Client Representative on projects, attend meetings, prepare minutes of meeting and  draft letters to the Client.  
18. Identify claims and variations to be made by the Company, collate the necessary supporting  information and prepare documents to justify the same in accordance with the contract  requirements.  
19. Preparing Post Mortem and Dossier Packages on completion of the Project.
20. Assess claims from Sub-Contractors and prepare report for discussion with Management.  
21. Review contract documents (General and Particular Condition of Contract, specifications,  drawings, Bill of Quantities and preambles) for projects and advise Management on claims to be  made in favor of the Company.  
22. Prepare supporting documents for tender submission, these should include but not be limited to: 

• Work Methodology  
• Project Schedule  
• All Inclusive Unit Rate Build Up  
• Inspection and Test Plan  
• Health Safety Security and Environmental (H.S.S.E) Plan  
• Risk Assessment  

23. Prepare work plans identifying the resources (labour, equipment and materials) required to  complete projects.  
24. Develop Inspection and Test Plans (ITP) for projects Quality Assurance and Quality Control  purposes.  
25. Liaise with the Project Construction Manager to evaluate, develop and implement construction  strategies or techniques.  
26. Assist in the hiring of Sub-Contractors.  
27. Set up and monitor Sub-Contractors contract to ensure sub-contracted works are delivered within  time, cost, safety and quality.  
28. Assist in the preparation of documents for statutory approvals for local authorities. 
29. Perform other related duties as required by the job function.  

QUALIFICATIONS:  

• Diploma / Certification in Construction / Civil Engineering from a recognized institution. 
• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar position.  
• Experience in the use of AutoCAD will be an asset.
