Job Purpose:

The Collection Supervisor is responsible for overseeing his/her team of collection officers. The Collection Supervisor ensures his/her staff is meeting targets, complying with the Credit Unions policy and the Co-operative Credit Union Act.

Duties:

  • Ensure the Credit Union’s policies and procedures are followed according to established guidelines and make recommendations for improvement
  • Ensures that staff is meeting targets while complying with company policy and collection laws.
  • Responsible for inputting data and creating spread sheets showing the progress of his staff’s efforts to collect debts.
  • Take legal action or realization of security in cases where payment is not forthcoming including referrals to co-operative department.
  • Trace and locate members and members’ friends, neighbours, relatives and employers to obtain information including public notices for information.
  • Attend arbitration and voluntary settlement meetings.
  • Approving and negotiating settlement and payment options.
  • Hold team planning meetings, to meet defined department goals and activity metrics, particular focus on team and individual targets.
  • Ensures that timely action is taken on all delinquent accounts.
  • Advice management on necessary changes to policy to ensure portfolio is managed appropriately.
  • Attend court hearings on behalf of VCU.
  • Review and sign collections letters.
  • Review and approve share transfers.
  • Meet with VCU attorneys with respect to litigation matters.
  • Ensure advertisement for repossessed vehicles/ properties are published in the newspapers
  • Collate bids for approval by management.
  • Ensure whereabouts ads are published.

Education and Experience:

  • Possession of Advance Level Certificate, Diploma in Business Management or completion of Level I ACCA and / or any other similar qualification
  • First degree in Management or Finance.
  • Completion of management training program
  • Four years’ experience as Collection Officer, at least one of which must be at a Supervisory level with experience in mortgage foreclosures, judgements and vehicle repossession etc.
  • Knowledge of the Credit Union movement
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

NOTE:

  • Updated Police Certificate of Character will be required
  • Applicants must possess the relevant experience to be considered for the position
