  JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Costing and Facilities Engineering Technician (C&FET)
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Costing and Facilities Manager

 

 

 

CORE FUNCTIONS:

The C&FET performs a multifaceted role in support of costing and Facilities Maintenance being planned and in progress. In one capacity, the C&FET applies the theory and principles of engineering in assisting with the planning, design, and oversight of construction and maintenance of structures and facilities, under the direction of the Facilities and Costing Manager. In this regard, he/she assists in ensuring that the Company’s construction and maintenance activities are executed in accordance with design specifications and the requirements of the statutory and other approval agencies, and that quality standards are met. In the other capacity, the C&FET supports and assists the Costing and Facilities Manager in the cost, value and contract management of construction and maintenance projects, from inception until completion. He/she provides support for all aspects of a project from procurement, contract preparation, execution, maintenance and project cost management.

 

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Oversee works under the facilities and Costing Department as required, to ensure efficient and timely completion of the project.
  2. Develop Bills of Quantities and estimate costs for all new projects and remedial works.
  3. Prepare payments and approval of cost for Projects and Facilities department.
  4. Assist in the preparation of contracts, including details regarding quantities of required works or material.
  5. Prepare and submit progress and final certifications for contracted works, based on field measurements and contract documentation.
  6. Perform site measurements, material calculations and drawing take-offs as required.
  7. Monitor and track progress and work completed at regular intervals, comparing planned to actual, and taking appropriate mitigating action to ensure compliance with the plan, based on knowledge of available manpower, equipment, materials.
  8. Review quantities of materials received or used during specified periods, in order to minimise wastage and inefficiency.
  9. Inspect project sites and evaluate contractor works and/or in-house staff works to ensure all works are done according to scope of works.
  10. Prepare reports, memos and document project activities and data.
  11. Supervising and scheduling facilities related works (WOs) and or service contracts for assigned project or site.
  12. Any other applicable duties as required.

 

 

AUTHORITY:

  1. To provide support to the Costing and Facilities Department in the execution of day-to-day functions.

 

 

RELATIONSHIPS:

  1. Works closely with the Costing and facilities Manager and the Administrative Assistances to ensure that the Company’s needs are fulfilled
  2. Interacts with suppliers and tenants/purchasers as needed
  3. Work with members of other departments Works closely with the site and office staff in ensuring quality of construction.

 

 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  2. Design skills to complement technical know-how
  3. An analytical mind with strong problem-solving ability
  4. Good attention to detail
  5. The ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
  6. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  7. The ability to work well under time and budget pressures
  8. Time management skills
  9. Competence in CAD
  10. Competence in the Microsoft Office Suite of tools

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Technician Diploma in Construction or equivalent.
  2. A BSc in engineering or construction will be an asset.
  3. Must be an analytical individual and possess problem solving skills, with the ability to take the initiative.
  4. Three (3) years’ experience in a similar role.
