JOB   DESCRIPTION 

POSITION:      DOCKHAND 

REPORTS TO:      DOCKMASTER

 Summary

The Dockhand is responsible to maintain the cleanliness of the marina and assist the marina team to serve marina customers and guests by performing the following duties.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Carries out routine cleaning duties that meet established quality standards for all marina related operations; insures the recognized standards are maintained and that quality, and delivery commitments are met
2. Assists the Dockmasters and other Dockhands in marina related duties such as securing boats to docks, connecting and monitoring utility services (power, water and telephone), black water pump out, waste disposal and facility sanitation
3. Provides the highest level of customer and guest services, expedites any and all requests from vessels including transport of patrons and baggage to and from dockside, delivery of provisions and packages
4. Routinely operates, motor and water vehicles and other various mechanized equipment
5. Provides general security and supports marina and facility security teams in their security related efforts; reports disturbances in dock area to superiors and maintains general vigilance
6. Assists refuelling operations when required at the marina refuelling facility, ensures safe fuelling procedures
7. Provides service to marina and facility guests and carries out routine marina maintenance
8. Complying with instructions or duties as may be reasonably assigned

Required Qualifications and Qualities

1. A broad knowledge of marina operations, boat lifting, boat handling and towing, plant and equipment maintenance
2. Proven skills or the willingness to be trained in administration, seamanship, communication, health and safety, plant and equipment maintenance and marina operations
3. Familiarity with common marina operational documentation (e.g. agreements, contracts, terms and conditions, marina rules and regulations etc.) and the ability to analyse them
4. A positive attitude combined with the ability to communicate fluently and relate well to customers in the leisure environment and the ability to manage and motivate staff
5. Commercial awareness and an eye for detail in all aspects of work
6. High standards of presentation and accuracy in written work
7. Proficient swimmer

Education/Experience

Secondary school education

Language Ability

Level of English that allows reasonable communication with customers, guests and employees

• Ensure that adequate information is provided for completing tasks and seek clarification as required
• Inform supervisor of all unsafe conditions observed and the occurrence of incidents or accidents
• Securing, inspecting and using assigned PPE, tools and equipment appropriately

GENERAL

Hours of Work:

Your normal workweek shall consist of forty hours, Sunday to Saturday on a shift basis.  However, from time to time you may be required to work longer hours.

It is the employee’s personal responsibility, within the framework of the tasks he/she has been set, to ensure that his/her is distributed between tasks in the most advantageous way to the overall benefit of the Company.
