The Epidemiologist (Non-Medical) will report to the Manager-Health Policy, Research and Planning.

5. NATURE & SCOPE

The Epidemiologist (Non-Medical) is required to collate, analyze and input data relevant to disease surveillance and control throughout the region.

6. SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Epidemiologist (Non-Medical) would be required to:

  •   Collates, analyzes and interprets data relative to disease surveillance and control throughout the Regional Health Authority.
  •   Conducts research and investigations into disease out-breaks of epidemic significance and document such information.
  •   Reviewscurrentsurveillancedataandmodifiesthemethodologyemployedinobtainingthisdatabased on the existing environment
  •   Determinespatternsandtrendsofdiseasesandidentifydisease-threateningsituations/factorsandassist in the development of suitable countermeasures.
  •   Monitors and measures relevant epidemiological and health indicators in support of the strategic direction of the Authority.
  •   Participates in identifying and designing research projects in disease problem areas.
  •   Prepares and submits periodic reports on epidemiological control and surveillance.
  •   Assists in the preparation of protocols, procedural manuals and other documents relative to

    epidemiological surveillance.

  •   Liaises with other related Public Health Agencies in the monitoring of human diseases within the

    framework of National Epidemiological surveillance policies.

  •   Assistsintheformulationofuptodatesurveillancesystemsandprovidessuitabledataforapplication

    in the formulation of National Preventative Medicine Programs.

  •   Perform related work as may be required by the appropriate Authority.

7. KEY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  •   Considerable knowledge of Epidemiological methodology.
  •   Considerable knowledge of research techniques and procedures.
  •   Knowledge of using software applications, such as GIS, SPSS and Microsoft Office
  •   Ability to organize, plan and supervise Epidemiological investigations, including the undertaking of

    special surveys.

  •   Ability to collate, analyze and interpret Epidemiological data including demographic data.
  •   Ability to prepare technical epidemiological reports and formulate initial counter measures.
  •   Ability to design protocols for research projects.
  •   Ability to advise and assist field staff in Epidemiological investigations.
  •   Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.

8. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

  •   Training as evidenced by a B.Sc. in one of the related Social Sciences.
  •   Training and or experience in the field of Epidemiology.
  •   Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
