Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the position at the Caura Hospital, North-Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA).

HOUSE OFFICER – PALLIATIVE CARE

The incumbent will be responsible for diagnosing and administering general medical treatment to patients in a hospital or through extension services at a Clinic, School or Clinic Mobile or other designated place. He/She perform under the general supervision of a professional superior who is available for consultation and is reviewed through observation, consultation and analysis of findings and reports.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Reviews fully, all patients admitted and their case histories and physical examination documented within twelve (12) hours of admission, including a diagnosis and/or differential diagnosis with clear indication of the major reason for admission and any other subsidiary or secondary problems or complications.
  • Carries out medical examinations and prescribe for more detailed attention as may appear necessary.
  • Examines government employees and other categories of persons in accordance with government policy.
  • Provides medical attention to armed forces personnel and their families; policemen, fishermen and staff and the inmates of detention institutions.
  • Undertakes medico-legal duties as may be reasonably required with specialist advice if necessary.
  • Records patients’ clinical status on day of discharge. The final diagnosis and relevant investigations on discharge should also be recorded. Patients’ treatment on discharge should be recorded and clear statement as to how long such therapy is indicated must be made. The disposal of the patient on discharge must be clearly recorded.
  • Carries out those functions their Consultants and/or Senior Residents may require of them from time to time.
  • Attends and assists their Consultants in Out-patient Clinics as required.
  • Ensures that case summaries of the patient’s problem and progress to discharge (or otherwise) are forwarded to the referring Doctor as soon as possible after patient’s discharge.
  • Performs post-mortem examinations as required.
  • Completes all case summaries within three (3) weeks (21 days) of the patient’s disposal from unit.
  • Acceptable medical care and accurate documentation of all patients’ treatment under his/her care.
  • Performs other related duties as directed by the appropriate organisational relationship

Minimum Qualifications, Training and Experience:

  • Training as evidenced by the possession of a recognised Medical Degree.
  • Three (3) years post internship experience in a relevant specialty (such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or ICU/Anaesthetics) would be an asset.
  • Registration as a Medical practitioner by the Medical Board of Trinidad & Tobago.

* Certificates acquired at foreign universities MUST be supported by certified transcripts as well as evidence that the completed programme is accredited in Trinidad and Tobago*
