PURPOSE OF JOB

The Junior Developer of Operations (DevOps) Engineer is responsible for assisting with maintaining the designs, development, testing, deployment, and support for applications for Unipet and its subsidiaries. The incumbent will be involved in corrective and preventive maintenance, CI/CD processes and customization work as well as work alongside hardware/software contractors as required in addition to leading and supporting the development, installation, and maintenance of hardware/software solutions.

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • To support analyzing current technology and existing applications utilized within the company and develop steps and processes to improve and expand upon them.
  • To develop and maintain up to date documentation/policies/procedures to guide the management and maintenance of hardware infrastructure and software solutions.
  • To provide technical guidance and educate team members on infrastructure and software development and operations.
  • To research, design, implement, manage, and maintain software programming code that utilizes the appropriate technology stack.
  • To support the implementation of emerging hardware and software technologies through research and business case development.
  • To work alongside project management teams and contractors to ensure success in delivery of initiatives.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide detailed specifications for proposed hardware and software solutions including materials, manpower and time necessary.
  • Establish milestones for necessary contributions from departments and develop processes to facilitate their collaboration.
  • Support training team members and other coworkers and seek to continually improve processes throughout the company.
  • Develop and apply practical demonstrations of proposed solutions to team members.
  • Build and test automation tools for technology infrastructure provisioning.
  • Build tools to reduce occurrences of errors and improve customer experience.
  • Handle code deployments in all environments.
  • Identify areas for modification in existing programs and subsequently develop these modifications.
  • Write and implement efficient code across different software applications.
  • Develop software to integrate with back-end systems and other software.
  • Perform root cause analysis for software production errors.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues.
  • Document tutorials, processes, and procedures for system usage, troubleshooting and maintenance as well as for knowledge transfer.
  • Support Management of continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) tools with team.
  • Support the successful delivery of new hardware technologies from concept to implementation.
  • Work cooperatively with project teams/contractors to maintain hardware and software needed for projects to be completed efficiently.
  • Work alongside project management teams to successfully implement initiatives.
  • Consult with peers for feedback during hardware and software testing stages.
  • Attend training sessions on new hardware and software products, installation methodology, maintenance, and reporting.
  • Provide support to the Developer of Operations Engineer and Business Transformation Programme Manager to effectively and efficiently complete projects.

ACADEMIC/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Working knowledge in Database Development including SQL.
  • Good knowledge of programming languages including Ruby, Java, JavaScript, Python
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a similar capacity and in a 24/7-hour high pace operation business.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Azure and other cloud hosting environments
  • Experience in an Agile software development environment.
  • Experience in both Windows and Linux operating system environments.
  • Experience in business intelligence and reporting/visualization tools such as PowerBi and Tableau
