Vacancy: Junior System Administrator 

Synopsis: The IT System Administrator is responsible for the overall health of the organization’s Information Technology (IT) infrastructure primarily related to networking and user endpoints. He/she will be required to monitor the environment, suggest and implement improvements to ensure that disruption of services (downtime) is kept to a minimum.

 

Responsible for:

  • Providing technical support and L3 HelpDesk support
  • Assisting in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware and software systems
  • Performing routine system updates, patches, and upgrades
  • Monitoring of application and hardware performance to ensure that up-time metrics are met
  • Assisting in managing and troubleshooting network devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls
  • Reviewing of daily email alerts to identify any potential issues to prevent downtime
  • Reviewing of IT data export workflows to ensure that information is transferred to intended systems within the required time frame
  • Identifying potential risks to the organization due to failing hardware, deprecated or unsupported software packages, lack of employee awareness, and other potential vectors
  • Upgrading applications and dependencies, operating systems, firmware and any related system to reduce risk of downtime
  • Proffering and implementing recommendations to improve user experience
  • Proffering and implementing recommendations to improve the monitoring of applications, services, endpoints, APIs and other related systems in use by the organization
  • Documenting any incidents and/or potential downtime so they can be handled appropriately
  • Responding to any hardware or software incidents to limit/contain the number of organization segments / number of persons affected
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps

 

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
    (Diploma with relevant field experience will also be considered)
  • Relevant Microsoft certification(s) will be considered an asset
  • Basic knowledge of operating systems, including Windows Server and Linux.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory (AD) for user and group management.
  • Understanding of network fundamentals: IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP.
  • Hands on experience with server and desktop hardware setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform basic system administration tasks, such as user account management, file permissions, and backups.
  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g. HyperV).
  • Familiarity with networking concepts, such as firewalls, VPNs, VLANs and routers.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools to track system health and performance.
  • Basic understanding of backup and disaster recovery processes.
  • Ability to write and maintain basic scripts for task automation (e.g., Power Shell).
  • Familiarity with security best practices, including patch management, firewall configurations, and endpoint security.
  • Knowledge of database administration (SQL Server, MySQL).
  • Prior experience in help desk or technical support roles will be an asset
