Land Surveyor

(Contract Position)

Reports To:                            The Chief Executive Officer

Supervisor To:                      Land Surveying Graduates, Draughtsmen and Chainmen

Position Purpose:

The Land Surveyor forms part of the Management team and will be responsible for surveying the earth’s surface at various sites to determine the precise location and measurements of areas, points, elevations, lines and contours for titles, land development, construction, mapmaking or other purposes.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs field surveys to obtain data for base plans.
  2. Performs construction stake-outs and boundary surveys.
  3. Produces drawings from raw survey data through the finished project.
  4. Supervises field staff.
  5. Maintains and stores drawing files for active projects
  6. Assists in the preparation of land development plans.
  7. Researches previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence and other records to obtaining data needed for surveys.
  8. Develops new data from photogrammetric records.
  9. Prepares descriptions of areas surveyed.
  10. Updates descriptions of land boundaries.
  11. Determines methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
  12. Keeps accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe and certify work performed
  13. Coordinates findings with work of engineering and architectural personnel, contractors and others concerned with project.
  14. Reviews all drawings and other contract documents and demonstrates a thorough understanding for implementation.
  15. Issues instructions to the contractor and ensures ongoing effective communication from/ and with contractors.
  16. Liaises with the office of the Director of Surveys towards the timely approval of Survey Plans.
  17. Communicates all the above information to the Chief Executive Officer on a timely basis.
  18. Performs related duties as may be required from time to time.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of GIS software and operations.
  • Familiarity with Autocad software.
  • Experience in supervising field staff.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A BSc. Land Surveying/ Geomatics
  • Must be a Trinidad and Tobago Licensed Surveyor (TTLS)
  • A minimum of 2-3 years in a similar capacity
  • Supervisory experience of field staff a must.
