Machine Operator

Scope/Objective:

Responsible for the daily operation of specialized dairy processing equipment according to company policy and procedures in order to produce various high quality and safe frozen desserts following standardized formulations and standard operating procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate various machines to prepare ice cream mixes and to convert prepared mixes into finished products. Machines include but not limited to electronic balances, blending systems, pasteurising systems, homogenisers, fillers and coding machines.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs, GMPs, safety and quality system standards.
  • Ensure proper cleaning and sanitizing of equipment and ancillaries before, during and after use.
  • Able to direct and support production line members by providing guidance and training as necessary to increase their skills.
  • Record all daily production neatly, accurately and legibly on the production forms capturing output levels and machine performance.
  • Ensuring that daily production schedules are met so that orders are satisfied as needed.
  • Ensure machinery, equipment and designated work area are properly maintained, kept clean and organised for efficient and safe production.
  • Able to recommend improvements in production methods, equipment, operating procedures and working conditions.
  • Able to perform simple troubleshooting and machine adjustments.
  • Ensure products are properly filled, are of the correct size and correctly date coded
  • Work closely with the QC department to ensure compliance to specifications, to resolve product quality and safety issues.
  • Notify Supervisor of any issue requiring immediate assistance.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Secondary school certification or other relevant qualification.
  • Previous machine operating experience is desired but not essential.
  • Ability to read, write, count and perform arithmetic computations.
  • Requires dexterity, mechanical aptitude, basic mechanical reasoning, problem solving and the ability to learn.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Must be able to receive and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work shifts, overtime, and weekends.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50lb (23kg).
  • Standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, twisting, stooping.
