SCOPE:

The Port Operations Supervisor assists the Port Operations Manager in all aspects of port planning and operations

KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • To assist in planning port operations activity.
  • To ensure the smooth and efficient operations of port activities.
  • To ensure timely delivery of port services.
  • To maintain a safe, tidy and organized port.
  • To ensure that the HSE systems and procedures are adhered to and maintained at all times.
  • To maintain a productive port crew.

 

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

 

  • Daily receipt of instructions from Port Operations Manager before executing any port activity.
  • Supervision and scheduling of port crew and equipment operators.
  • Berthing and un-berthing of vessels.
  • Monitors radio for giving and receiving berthing instructions.
  • Coordination of loading and off-loading of vessels.
  • Receipt and delivery of bunkers.
  • Receipt and delivery of water supplies.
  • Preparation of daily reports including berthing, crane, fuel, water slips and employee time sheets.
  • Ensures the mechanical maintenance of machinery and heavy lifting equipment including crane, forklifts and lifting gear.
  • Ensures certification of heavy lifting equipment including crane, forklifts and lifting gear.
  • Supervises cargo storage according to regulations.
  • Ensures that the port is organized and tidy after each port activity and on a daily basis.
  • Supervises shifts.
  • Assists in the Port Operations planning activities.
  • Assists Port Operations Manger as necessary.
  • To monitor and implement management and business processes.
  • Ensure multiple critical positions are not held by single person or held by newly promoted or newly employed person.
  • Fully comply with the Company’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) requirements/policies as well as comply with all regulatory and legislative requirements related to HSE.
  • Any other jobs related to port activities as may be necessary.

 

 

HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT (HSE):

 

  • Assist Port Operations Manager and/or General Manager in meeting compliance with TT OSH Act and other relevant industry legislation
  • Assist in the development, documentation and implementation of ChagTerms HSE System
  • Responsible for reviewing the HSE training needs for area of control
  • Responsible for the preparation and review of client requested HSE documentation
  • Provide clarification on HSE System if and when required
  • Responsible for the resolution of HSE related complaints (Internal / Client)
  • Responsible for coordinating accident investigation involving personnel, property and /or the environment
  • Responsible for ensuring root cause of incidents are analysed and the appropriate corrective actions are taken
  • Responsible for ensuring suitable and sufficient risk assessments are conducted for the area under their control
  • Ensure that all hazards identified are closed
  • Stop unsafe work, behaviours or conditions and report to the Port Operations Manager and/or General Manager where necessary.
  • Investigate incidents of refusal to work by employees and correct unsafe conditions
  • Ensures that progressive disciplinary action is taken for HSE non-compliance.
  • Lockout and ensure that unsafe tools and equipment are not used by workers.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment, machinery, devices, protective equipment and work environment.
  • Reward employees for Positive HSE performance.
  • Demonstrate leadership for HSE.

 

 

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

 

  • Sound knowledge of Port Operations.
  • Ability to understand and relay information.
  • Be self-motivated and have strong leadership skills.
  • Good hand-eye co-ordination.
  • Strong Physical Fitness.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • MUST be a CERTIFIED (API Standard) Rigger.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years certified experience.
  • Pass company medical and be certified as medically fit.

GENERAL

 

  1. Hours of Work

The normal hours of work are from 8AM to 4.30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays with one hour break for lunch normally between 12.00 noon and 1.00 p.m.  Because of the nature of employment, the employee will be required to work outside of these normal working hours as and when the occasion arises.

It is the employee’s personal responsibility, within the framework of the tasks he/she has been set, to ensure that his/her time is distributed between tasks in the most advantageous way to the overall benefit of the Company.
