Key Responsibilities:

 

Supervisory and leadership roles

  • Oversee, train and provide ongoing guidance to junior accounting staff
  • Ensure proper onboarding of new staff
  • Receive and address finance related queries from other department heads
  • Monitor time and attendance of junior accounts clerks, act as relief officer and/or reallocate tasks as necessary to ensure the department is operating efficiently
  • Liaise with inventory clerk to ensure cyclical stock counts are performed as planned
  • Liaise with accounts payable team and receive their recommendations on payments
  • Liaise with accounts receivable team and collate a status on outstanding receivables

Treasury and banking

  • Receive daily downloads of bank balance from the Directors
  • Prepare and maintain daily bank balance excel file for all bank accounts and perform the necessary checks to ensure all transactions are accurately recorded on the system.
  • Send a bank balance report to the Directors each morning outlining the bank balance and a list of unpresented cheques
  • Liaise with bankers, prepare wire transfers documents and resolve banking queries

Transaction review

  • Perform quality checks to ensure integrity of data entered into the system by junior clerks
  • Review payroll time records entered by payroll officer for accuracy
  • Supervise petty cash officer, perform surprise counts and review reimbursement documentation
  • Oversee end of day cash balancing procedures for lobby sales

General ledger maintenance

  • Enter payroll journals and reconcile payroll related accounts
  • Ensure subledgers reconcile to the general ledger and investigate differences
  • Analyse suspense and other clearing accounts and follow up on open items

Reporting to the Directors and External Accountant

  • Issue regular reports to management on the status of various ongoing tasks in the finance department
  • Provide suggested recommendations to management for improvement in controls in finance department
  • Resolve queries raised by the External Accountant
  • Any other tasks commensurate with the role as may be determined by the Directors or External Accountant

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Level 1 ACCA, FIA or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Practical Experience in Peachtree Accounting and Micropay
  • Ability to confidently engage with various levels of staff across the company.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
  • Energetic with positive and proactive approach in the workplace.
  • Self-motivated and able to adhere to deadlines
  • Highly organized approach to work and ability to multi–task and prioritize effectively with demonstrable ability to work on own initiative.
  • Flexibility in line with business requirements
