  JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Surveyor Chainman
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Surveyor| Project Manager

 

 

 

SUMMARY:

Position requires an individual with knowledge and familiarity with land surveys, construction staking, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, civil engineering surveys and land development planning processes. Skills include but are not limited to land survey, construction staking, boundary survey, topographic survey, and operating as part of a team which includes Project managers, Engineers and Supervisors.

 

DUTIES:

  • Works under the guidance of a surveyor.
  • Assist in surveys to ascertain the locations of natural features and man-made structures on the earth’s surface, underground, and underwater using electronic distance-measuring equipment and other surveying instruments.
  • Assist in laying out grids and determine horizontal and vertical controls.
  • Maintain equipment and vehicles used by surveying crews.
  • Perform manual labor, such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, rebar, and other heavy items, opening of manholes and stacking rods. Place and hold measuring tapes when electronic distance-measuring equipment is not used.
  • Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that operators use for sighting to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
  • Provide assistance in the development of methods and procedures for conducting field surveys. Assist in record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings.
  • Assist in the search for section corners, property irons, and survey points. Assist in setting out and recovering stakes, marks, and other monumentation. Run rods for benches and cross-section elevations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Read, understand, interpret, and analyze complex regulations, standards, and a wide variety of information related to planning and environmental issues, available in a wide variety of formats.
  • Analyze a variety of information or issues and effectively use independent judgment in interpretation of information, decision making, problem resolution, and compliance requirements.
  • Conduct field visits and inspections at construction sites and a wide variety of outdoor locations by safely navigating all types of terrain, including potentially hazardous sites, in all weather conditions.

 

 

QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES:

  1. Minimum of 2years experience in the field of Land and/or Engineering surveying
  2. Holder of a valid driving license
  3. Experience in the field Construction
