At a radio station, “traffic” refers to the scheduling of the station’s paid advertisements. It is the job of the station’s Traffic Coordinator to coordinate and arrange the daily commercial logs.
The Traffic Coordinator works closely with Sales and Programming- processing orders, keeping daily maintenance of station program logs, entering orders into the traffic system, proofing and filing contracts. This position supports the Network Traffic Director, and calls for strong computer and math skills, great typing abilities and the ability to succeed in a pressured, fast-paced environment.
Traffic department also coordinates with the Production department to make sure that commercials (booked by Sales) are produced, if the advertisers don’t have a commercial already produced; and then schedules these advertisements for on-air broadcast.
Knowledge & Skills:
Mondays – Fridays
9:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. (during “peak” season, Traffic Coordinators may be expected to work beyond normal end time)
