Job Summary:

 

 

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventive, routine and emergency repairs to all packaging equipment’s ensuring that production quantity and quality are met in accordance with company policies and procedures. He/ She will be required to work alongside the Operations Supervisor to ensure spare and consumable parts are readily available. Inspect all vertical form fill and seal (VFFS) machines continuously providing updates and recommendations to management to achieve maximum efficiency.

 

Core responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on all packaging equipment using relevant procedures.
  • Work alongside packaging operators on changeovers to VFFS machinery ensuring it done in a timely manner.
  • Grease oil and lubricate machinery to ensure as per scheduled.
  • Calibration of pneumatic scales ensuring target weights are achieved.
  • Troubleshoot and repair to PLC systems e.g., screens, boards, wiring and VFV controls
  • Install maintain and repairs to belts, shafts, drives, and motors on various packaging equipment.
  • Performs dismantling, repair, and assembly work on conveyors belts and bucket conveyors.
  • Prepare and fill out relevant job cards for planned repairs ensuring all downtime is documented and accounted for.
  • Provide support to outsourced contractors when needed.
  • Work alongside Operations supervisor to planning and execute preventive maintenance schedule for daily, weekly, and monthly jobs.
  • Monitor the efficiency of compressors and integrity of airlines throughout production floor.
  • Utilize root cause analysis to develop recommendations for correcting unexpected machinery breakdowns.
  • Conduct research for equipment and methods to improve plant efficiency. Conduct and maintain proper inventory of consumables and spare parts. Participate in the company’s Quality and Food safety programs.
  • Participate in weekly, monthly, and yearly physical stock counts planned by the Production and Packaging Manager.
  • Assist in the creation of processes and procedures within the specific area of the department to ensure efficiency and effective flow of work is achieved.
  • Contribute to the Production and Packaging department strategic plan and assist in execution of same to ensure the effective long-term sustainability of the operations.

 

 

Education and Experience

  • Diploma in Engineering or related field from a recognized university.
  • Journeyman certification with 3 years’ experience within packaging department Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of vertical form fill and seal (VFFS) machinery.
  • At least 5 years of working experience within a maintenance environment
